Guide To Removing An Instagram Report (Immediate + Step-By-Step)

Instagram has a strict policy against harassment, violence, abuse, spam, and hate speech. However, due to the platform’s daily active user count reaching into the millions, it’s nearly impossible for Instagram to review all the content. As a result, Instagram asks its users to report accounts that violate the platform’s policies in Instagram captions, story texts, profile pictures, comments, and more.

While Instagram may block an account with even a single report if it feels the account does not follow the platform’s policies, especially if the content is deemed dangerous and poses security risks, the possibility of the account being swiftly deleted exists.

The crucial aspect of reporting on Instagram is not the number of complaints that leads to an account being blocked, but rather how frequently a user posts content that violates Instagram’s policies.

Let’s thoroughly examine what factors lead to an Instagram report in this article and subsequently provide a guide on How To Remove An Instagram Report.

What Is Instagram’s Policy, And What Actions Can Lead To An Instagram Report?

Instagram endeavors to ensure its platform is a peaceful place for social interactions and photo sharing. Consequently, its policies clearly state the desire for Instagram to be a secure environment for inspiration and expressing opinions. Hence, community guidelines have been put in place to achieve this goal. Furthermore, by creating an account on this platform, you acknowledge and commit to these responsibilities. These commitments are laid out in the community guidelines, which users are expected to adhere to, encompassing the following areas:

  • Nudity and sexual activity
  • Hate speech
  • Inciting violence or forming dangerous groups
  • Bullying or harassing others
  • Posting videos or images of violence
  • Insult, attack, or abuse based on race, ethnicity, national origin, sex, gender identity, sexual orientation, religion, religious affiliation, disability, or disease
  • Selling illegal or prohibited goods
  • Intellectual property infringement
  • Promoting suicide or self-harm
  • Supporting terrorism, organized crime, or hate groups
  • Fraud or deception
  • Misinformation
  • Offering sexual services, selling firearms and drugs
  • Violating copyright and intellectual property laws

Any user with an Instagram account can report content, posts, stories, comments, etc., that do not comply with the platform’s community guidelines. Currently, users can report accounts for posting illegal content, impersonating someone else, or not meeting the legal age requirement (minimum of 13 years old).

What Happens After An Instagram Report?

When a post, account, or comment is reported on Instagram, the platform reviews the report. If several other users also report the same content, Instagram will remove any content that violates its Community Guidelines. Additionally, if the entire account violates the community guidelines, the account will be blocked or deactivated.

What Should Be Done To Resolve An Instagram Report?

If someone reports your Instagram page without any reason, and you are sure that you have not violated any of the platform’s guidelines, there is no need to worry about the report. Instagram reviews the reported comment or post, and if no inappropriate content is found, no action will be taken against your activity. However, if an Instagram report occurs and you believe the content removal or account deactivation was a mistake, you can lift the Instagram report through one of the following methods.

Removing An Instagram Report With A Review Request

Before you want to protest about the reported content, you must first submit a request to review the content that has been reported by the Instagram page. Instagram conducts the review request up to two times, however, after two reviews, if you still object to the decision, you can submit a request for a reconsideration for oversight review. There are several methods to request a review.

When you receive the notification related to the violation, to know the reason for the removal of the content by Instagram, you can click on “Ask for a review” at the bottom of the page and follow the instructions on the screen. You can also submit a review request from the Account Status section or the Support Inbox.

Submitting A Review Request Via Account Status

-After logging into Instagram, click on the photo or profile at the bottom right to go to your profile section.

-At the top right of the page, click on the three lines, then go to the Settings and Privacy section.

-At the bottom of the page, in the More Info and Support section, click on the Help option.

-Then click on Account Status.

-In this section, tap on the removed content and then click on Request a review.

-Then click on Submit request, and afterward click on Done.

Submitting A Review Request Via Support Inbox

-Go to your profile on Instagram.

-Click on the three lines at the top right of the page and select the Settings and Privacy option.

-Under the More Info and Support option, select Help.

-At this initial stage, select Support Requests and then Violations.

-In this section, open the text that has been sent regarding the Instagram report.

-At the bottom of the report, click on the More Options button.

-Then select the Request Review option and afterwards hit the Close button.

If during the review stage Instagram realizes that your content was mistakenly deleted, that content will be re-uploaded to your page again.

Guide To Reporting On Instagram By Submitting An Appeal Request

If you are sure that the restrictions imposed on your Instagram Caption writing, Instagram story text, and Instagram profile picture are unfair, you can submit a reconsideration request to Instagram.

There are two types of reconsideration regarding the content you want to submit a request to Instagram about:

1-Reconsideration of your own content

2-Reconsideration of content that is reported on Instagram

If you think your content was mistakenly removed, you should appeal to the Oversight Board. We have explained how to do this in the tutorial on submitting a review request via the Support Inbox.

After submitting a review request, if your content is eligible for an appeal, you will receive a message containing a reference number from the Oversight Board. This reference number starts with “IG” followed by 8 digits and letters. If these numbers are not in the review request message, your content is currently not eligible for an appeal to the Oversight Board’s decision; however, if you have the Oversight Board’s reference number in your support requests, you can use it to appeal the decision about your Instagram content to the Oversight Board.

In the next step, you must use the Oversight Board’s reference ID to object to the decision regarding your Instagram content.

To object to Instagram’s decision using the reference number, you must tap on the number to copy it. This reference number starts with IG followed by 8 digits and letters.

Then follow the instructions on the screen to be directed to the Oversight Board’s website and complete your appeal request.

After entering the Oversight Board’s website, you have options to log in, such as with a Facebook account or an Instagram username; it’s best to log in with the account for which your reference number was issued (meaning if you are logged in with your Instagram username, log in to the Oversight Board’s website in the same manner).

After logging into the Oversight Board’s website, you will be asked to answer a few questions before completing your appeal request. Your answers provide information about the post, comment, or photo you are contesting, and help the board understand why you think Instagram has made a wrong decision.

After submitting your appeal request, you can check the status of your appeal by logging back into the Oversight Board’s website using your reference number. Remember, you only have 15 days from the time of receiving the report to address the Instagram page report and submit an appeal to the Oversight Board. After 15 days, the appeal window regarding the decision will expire, and you will no longer be able to submit it.
